With the new year comes a time to reflect and set goals and manifestations for the year. In this blog post, I’ll show you How To Create a Vision Board so you can visualise your dreams in one place. Vision boards have proved successful for me for several years now, and I thought it was time I collated all my knowledge into one place.
What is a Vision Board?
A vision board is a visual representation of your goals, dreams, and manifestations. It’s a collage of images, words, and symbols that inspire you and remind you of what you’re working towards. Think of it as a roadmap to your ideal life, helping you focus your energy and maintain motivation throughout the year. I’m a very visual person so having this collage in a place I will look at every day means I am always reminded of the path I have set for myself and therefore achieve my goals more fruitfully.
Why Create a Vision Board?
Creating a vision board can:
- Help clarify your goals: Putting your dreams into visual form helps you define what you truly want, as well as allows you to imagine it.
- Boost motivation: Seeing your manifestations displayed daily keeps you inspired and on the right path.
- Encourage manifestation: Many people believe in the power of visualization—seeing your dreams as already achieved can help make them a reality. This has worked for me for many years with proven results every time!
- Be a fun and creative activity: Crafting a vision board can be a therapeutic and enjoyable process. I find it cathartic and inspiring to set out my goals in this way – It’s much more positive then new years resolutions.
Materials You’ll Need
To create your vision board, gather the following supplies:
- A large piece of card or paper, I usually use A2 card.
- Magazines or printouts: Look for images and words that resonate with your goals (more on this shortly)!
- Scissors and glue: To cut out and affix your images.
- Pens or stickers: To add personal touches and annotations.
- Optional extras: Washi tape, fabric scraps, or glitter for added flair.
Step-by-Step Guide to Creating Your Vision Board
Step 1: Reflect on Your Goals
Before diving into the creative part, spend some time reflecting on what you want to achieve this year. Consider different areas of your life such as:
- Career: Do you want to start a new project, grow your business, or land a dream job? Maybe you need help refining your branding or want to start making passive income. This could also being grateful for the job/work you already do if you’re in a current place of fulfillment and want to keep the good energy going.
- Personal Growth: Are there skills you’d like to learn or habits you’d like to develop? A new language? A core skill you want to learn?
- Relationships: What kind of connections do you want to nurture? Last year I wanted to cultivate new friendships so I did a lot of visuals around what I wanted to feel, and what I wanted those to look like!
- Health and Wellness: What are your fitness or self-care goals?
- Creativity and Hobbies: What fun or artistic endeavors would you like to explore?
- Lifestyle: Are there some simple lifestyle goals like getting a new car, decorating your house, more quality time with family?
Step 2: Journal
Start the process by journalling first so that you can work through anything you need to whether that be reflecting on this year, or thinking about the year to come.
- What does my dream life look like?
- What are three areas of life I want to focus on (e.g., career, relationships, health)?
- What words or themes resonate with me (e.g., abundance, confidence, nurture)? Choose a Word or several words of the Year that resonate with you and your beliefs, values, and goals. For example, mine are confidence, health, and nurture.
- Brainstorm words that capture the essence of your goals or mindset for the year.
- Work on manifesting so taking your goals and writing them as if they’re already happening.
Step 3: Gather Your Visuals
Go through magazines, websites, or Pinterest to find images and words that resonate with your goals. Print them out or cut them from physical sources. Don’t overthink—go with what feels right and sparks joy. Pinterest is my favourite place to get images but if you prefer to look through magazines you can do that too. Pick out words and images you’re drawn to.
My 2025 board is here on Pinterest, so you can see the kinds of visuals I look for. I’ll pop some of the things I’ll be using below, once I create a Pinterest board, I then save my favourite images and lay them out on an A4 page. You can do this on Procreate or Word (or Google Docs)! Print them out and then you’re ready for step 4.
Step 4: Arrange Your Board
Start arranging your images and words on the board without gluing them down yet. Group similar themes together, such as career goals in one corner and personal growth in another. Play around until you’re happy with the layout and then you can start to glue things down where you want them.
Step 5: Display Your Vision Board
Place your completed vision board somewhere you’ll see it daily, such as your bedroom, workspace, or closet door. The more you see it, the more it will reinforce your goals and keep you motivated.
Tips for Success
- Be specific: Choose visuals that represent your goals. This can be an exact setting or an image that evokes a feeling – for example a shadow of a couple hugging for love, a crowd at a party for social fulfillment – whatever appeals to you is what will work best.
- Keep it positive: Focus on what you want to attract, not what you want to avoid. Using language that manifests things is important so instead of ‘I wish I had’, it would be ‘I have…’
- Update as needed: Feel free to revise your vision board as your goals evolve throughout the year. I ended up re-doing my 2024 one in October as I achieved everything on it and it no longer felt relevant, you can do this as many times as you need. A friend of mine makes monthly ones so they’re easier to digest so do what whats best for you and your mindset.
- Use it actively: Spend a few moments each day visualizing your dreams as if they’ve already come true.
