Paige Joanna quirky date ideas on a budget - exploring London

For most people, Valentines day is just a manufactured day for companies to make money, or a miserable one spent single. For me it is purely an excuse to go out, have fun and do something a little bit different with my boyfriend. I decided to put together a blog post with 3 quirky date ideas, to use all year round but especially this time of year. The ideas are located in London, however you can apply these ideas to anywhere you live for your own creative budget ideas. They aren’t just for loved up couples either, why not take your bestie out for the day and treat yourselves to something worth remembering.

Idea 1: Eating alfresco and skating.

For my first idea, ideally this would be in Battersea Park, London, but of course this can be in any local park that you enjoy going to. It is a really great idea for people on a budget as well as fun all year round. During the winter wrap up warm with loads of layers and pack a flask of tea or hot chocolate!

The plan:
– Pack a picnic of seasonal treats. For example this time of year you could bring a flask of soup, crunchy breads and yummy crisps and dip. In the summer take a salad and strawberries and cream (you just need to be creative and take what you like).
– Research and head to your favourite local park, one that allows bike riding, skating and picnics preferably.
– Be prepared and make sure you and your partner are kitted out with the right apparel for the occasion. Skate Hut is great for outdoors clothing and shoes, especially for skating.
– Eat your lunch first, and take a foldable lunch box or back pack as this will be easier for skating afterwards.
– In London you can hire a Borris bike and cycle together!
– Or take a skate board and laugh away while you both try and fail at skating.
– Failing that you could always borrow scooters from younger siblings, friends or family.
– Have fun and enjoy the outdoors together and what’s great is you get exercise, yummy food and something a little different to remember.

Idea 2: Crepes or Waffles in South Kensington, followed by a visit to V&A.

This is one of my favourite things to do at the weekends with friends, so why not turn it into a date idea!

The plan:
– Head to South Kensington tube station.
– Go get the most delicious sweet or savoury crepes or waffles at Kensington Creperie.
– After eating you can walk 3 minutes to the V&A Museum, which is free entry and always good fun to look around.
– This is a great idea for couples and friends wanting a fairly laid back quirky day that wont kill the bank!
Idea 3: See London from Emirates air line in Greenwich.

This is an amazing idea for under ten pounds. Again, London based but it’s really worth the experience. Save money but get just as good experience as the London eye can offer (in my opinion they are both just as great). The journey lasts about 15 minutes and you can then see the sights in Greenwich or pop for coffee in a cafe, to keep the costs down.
I hope you like my ideas and try them for yourself, I look forward to spending some quality time with my partner and loved ones, so hope you do to. We don’t need Valentines to excuse a good time, but why not make the most of it.
